Warlord Games Romans

Change of pace and period, here are some Warlord Games Imperial Romans;

Warlord do a 'veterans' kit too, and this unit of 12 includes parts from that kit.  I found them very easy and quick to build / paint, with the added nice touch that they look a bit 'vertically challenged' next to the assortment of barbarians I had to face them.

I've always liked painting red, though there is so much bare iron on Roman Legionaries from this period that the red would hardly show up if it weren't for the shields.  Excellent transfers in these kits, by the way.

Rather than have them all identically armed and posed, I did some with pilum and some with gladius drawn.  You don't get the same variety of pose with this kit that you do with other multi-pose plastic sets, but that's no doubt historically correct - individualism was a key characteristic or survival trait among the legions!

The least successful of the poses - hurling the pilum.  Maybe it was me getting it wrong, but they look a bit awkward and clunky.  The faces are beautifully expressive though - I didn't do the eyes on this batch, more's the pity, to make full use of this.

More shots to round off the post.
