This artillerymen are part of the same commission as the Boers (previous post) and the Natal Native Contingent shown in an earlier post. I don't often do 'uniform' commissions - 95% of my work is either non-uniform (medieval, for example) or as varied as I can make it (late war German WW2, Afrika Korps etc.). So painting whole units dressed identically is actually quite a change - albeit small units of only four chaps and a gun...
The miniatures themselves are superb. The gun was tricky to assemble, as 'spindly' white metal kits often are, but once assembled it looks great.
The simple dark blue uniforms with white equipment / helmet is a striking look - especially after the dun colours of the Boers. The red piping and details is similarly eye-catching, and although there isn't a great amount of it, the red/white/blue really reinforces the fact that you're looking at Victoria's Finest. Hopefully, the same client will require more from this period, as I'd like to have a go at some Naval Brigade, maybe with a Gatling gun...
